Best Hot Tub Boat Rentals in Seattle

Lake Union Hot Tub Boats

This innovative company has created a way for people to enjoy Seattle’s stunning waterways while soaking in a hot tub. The company truly is a labor of love, as the in-house team of shipwrights has conceptualized, designed, built, and executed the project. These boats also have a touch of Dutch–they were made in the Netherlands!

Lake Union Hot Tub Boats provides an incredible experience for friends and family to enjoy. For a flat fee, visitors can rent a hot tub boat for up to two hours.

The boats offer incredible views of Seattle landmarks like the Space Needle, Gas Works Park, and the Olympic Mountains. The experience is enhanced by a variety of different routes that are available for guests to choose from.

The wood-fired hot tub boats are environmentally friendly (in the PNW, we’d expect nothing less!) as they are heated by recycled logs and powered by electric motors. In addition, the tubs are designed with maximum depth, and the boats are tailor-made for easy navigation, making them a great option for outdoor adventures in Seattle’s climate and for various celebrations.

Hot Tub Boats

  • Perks: Colorful boats and a hot shower waiting on your return!

From a single DIY vessel to an entire business, shipwright Adam Karpenske came up with the idea for hot tub boats on a rainy Seattle afternoon. That was in 2011, and since then, countless people have enjoyed bobbing around Lake Union in his invention, come rain or shine!

Pick up your boat from their colorful boathouse, decorated in cheerful murals from local artists. After you spend two hours exploring Lake Union, return to the boathouse, where a hot shower will be waiting. They encourage you to “soak in the sea-nery,” and in their hot tub boats, it’s quite an easy thing to do!

What to Know Before You Go

Does Someone Drive the Boat for Us?

Calling all captains! There are no employees who steer the boat for you–your party gets to steer it themselves (as long as they are over 18)! The boats are easily operated by a joystick mechanism.

Since the engines have less than 15 horsepower, a boating license is not needed. For those who may be apprehensive about operating a boat, both companies offer comprehensive instructions and safety briefings.

Don’t hesitate to embark on this adventure! Sounds like smooth sailing to us!

When Are Hot Tub Boats Available?

This is Washington, so of course, a little rainy weather won’t deter fun-seekers on a Seattle adventure! The hot tub boats are available for rental all year round, rain or shine. So you can get toasty during winter or have a splash during your summer holiday.

What Should I Bring?

Each boat has storage – although the compartments are not completely waterproof. So feel free to leave valuables at the rental facility.

What to bring:

  • Food & drink (check with the company about their alcohol policy)
  • Small dry bag
  • Phones
  • Towels

What is provided:

  • Bluetooth speakers
  • Storage at the rental facility
  • Hot shower with amenities

Who Can Join the Fun?

The boats hold up to six people (along with six life jackets). Children are allowed with supervision. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed.

Other Unique Adventures Around Lake Union

Looking for some extra fun before or after your soak? Lake Union is a hotspot for recreation in Seattle. Check out some of our favorite spots and activities!

Go Kayaking or Stand Up Paddleboarding

Can’t get enough of the water? Kayaking and paddleboarding are affordable and accessible activities for anyone seeking to spend time splashing around. Lake Union provides a suitable location for renting these watercraft and enjoying the experience. Although navigating swells and currents on the Puget Sound can require some expertise, Lake Union offers a calmer environment, with boat wakes being the only obstacle. Rental places provide quick lessons to help you manage this challenge.

Kayaking and paddleboarding are the perfect way to soak in the sights at a leisurely pace. Take in stunning views of the city and the Space Needle, watch seaplanes gracefully land, and paddle by charming houseboats and sailboats.

Feeling daring? Explore the Ship Canal, but don’t forget to brush up on boating etiquette (ask at the rental shop if you’re unsure). Lake Union is bustling with people enjoying the water, but don’t let that stop you from having a blast!

Head to either Northwest Outdoor Center or Moss Bay to rent your gear and get started on your adventure.

Explore Gas Works Park

Gas Works Park is an urban green space in Seattle that offers great views of the city skyline and the lake. It was built on the former site of the Seattle Gas Light Company gasification plant, which still has some of its ruins. These ruins are fenced off but are popular for taking photos.

Gas Works Park has various attractions, including a play area with painted plant parts for climbing and exploration. The park also offers a kite-flying hill with ample wind.

Additionally, the park hosts significant events such as the Seafair Summer Fourth celebration in July and provides a prime location for fireworks viewing.

Soar Above the City With Kenmore Air

Take your Lake Union experience to new heights and witness the magic of seaplanes taking off and landing – with Kenmore Air operating one of its terminals on the lake!

The Seattle Scenic Seaplane Tour offers a 20-minute spectacle that’ll take you soaring over the University of Washington campus, downtown Seattle and its majestic stadiums, and other breathtaking sights around the city. Trust us, this is the ultimate way to witness Seattle’s beauty from the air.

Go Houseboat Sightseeing

The enchanting film Sleepless in Seattle may have sparked a fascination with adorable houseboats, and guess what? You can still feast your eyes on the floating community on Lake Union!

While you can’t exactly barge in and make yourself at home with Meg Ryan, you can glide past the houseboats if you rent a kayak or stay informed to see if there’s a pop-up tour of the floating structures.
